Jackson Hamilton headlined a big Day One of the 2017 Australian Athletics Championship for Team WA. Hamilton collected WA’s second gold of the afternoon, breaking a 20 year-old underage Australian record in the U16 Boys Para discus. Throwing 42.48m, Hamilton breaks Benjamin MacFie’s 1997 record in the F12 para category.

235 WA athletes set to light Sydney Olympic Park for the inaugural combined Junior and Open Australian Athletics Championships

More than 4000 track and field athletes of all ages will compete in the 2017 Australian Athletics Championships, with the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre set to host the inaugural combined Junior and Open Championships for able-bodied and para-athletes from 26 March to 2 April 2017.

Western Australia will be represented throughout the competition with 235 athletes ready to claim an Australian title. WA’s women will lead the charge with the likes of hurdler Brianna Beahan, thrower Sarah Edmiston and pole vaulter Nina Kennedy set to light up Sydney Olympic Park.
