The 2019-20 Season Calendar is developed in consultation with Athletics Australia, Little Athletics WA and the Athletics WA Competitions Advisory Group (CAG).

 

How is the program of events determined?

The 2019-20 Season Calendar includes national athletics competitions and considers other events that impact programming. It has been prepared with the intention to provide competition opportunities for the broad range of preferences of athletes, coaches and officials.

It is important to note it is not possible to offer every event at every competition. Most disciplines are offered once a fortnight, which ensures equity across events and is in line with other States’ competition offerings. The four programs (A, B, C and D) offer a range of events and times to cater for the needs of many.

 

Why are there Wednesday competitions?

Competitions are only held on Wednesdays when there is a conflicting event scheduled for the following weekend that may affect venue availability, athlete numbers and/or officials’ availability.

 

When will the State Relay Championships be held?

The Athletics WA State Relay events will be held in conjunction with the Little Athletics WA State Relay Championships event. The draft calendar has the Open 4x100m and Open 4x400m, in addition to a medley relay, scheduled between 1.30-2.30pm on Saturday the 14th of December.

This season, Field Relays will also be included in the State Relay Championships program.

 

Is there a Club v Club Competition this year?

The Douglas Memorial (DM) Shield club competition will return in 2019-20 in a revised format to maximise participation from affiliate clubs. This format is currently being reviewed by the Competition Advisory Group and further information, including rules and entry requirements will be released in September.

 

Why are there no late entries?

The removal of late entries results in more accurate timetabling of events and competitions running consistently on time during the 2018-19 Season. We received numerous feedback on the entries deadline, requesting a regular day/time. As such, the closing date for entries will now be Thursday at midday for all competitions, except for the three Wednesday night competitions.

The entry deadline allows time for competition administration, including the timetable, officials roster and start lists. Entries for Strive open approximately 2 weeks prior to competition, providing ample time for online entry. Reminder emails are sent 24-48 hours prior to the deadline, with social media posts also providing further prompts to assist members. Members are automatically added to the Athletics WA mailing list upon registration.

How do seed performances affect heat draws?

Athletes are required to enter accurate seeding times when registering for competition to ensure they are entered in the appropriate heat. Our Meet Manager software, which is used nation-wide for track and field events, does not allow for validation of these seed times and verifying 250+ athlete performances on a weekly basis is not a practical use of resources. If you have a concern about an athlete’s heat draw, please contact the Athletics WA office.

 

What if I am targeting a qualification or record? / Can I request an event?

As always, athletes can request special events through the Athletics WA office where there is a specific requirement or purpose not available through the regular program. Requests will be assessed on an individual basis by the Athletics WA office.
